Thunderbird Secure IMAP/POP client

To Thunderbird to use a secure IMAP connection, using SSL (Secure Socket Layer):

1. Go to the Tools → Account Settings.
2. Under Server Settings, make sure the Server Name is set to mail.cs.duke.edu
3. The Port setting should be 993.
4. Under Security Settings, Connection security should be SSL/TSL.
5. Click OK to exit.

Do not forget to enable STARTLS/SSMTP for sendmail mail remotely. For more information see the following link, SMTP AUTH/STARTTLS
